There’s no doubt about it: Nicolas Ghesquiere knows exactly what he’s up to at Louis Vuitton.
The Spring Summer 2015 womenswear collection fashion show opened with living video murals of enormous heads intoning an odd, slightly stilted monologue. We got a few facts about the building – 3,600 glass panels, 15,000 tonnes of concrete – which we eagerly scribbled down as if they would mean something. LV presented a futuristic look rich in leather and metallics on Wednesday, offering colored biker jackets and shiny dresses as the luxury French label wrapped Paris Fashion Week. The jacket then took on different looks — painted with rainbow colors, printed with the Vuitton monogram or military style. For the evening, silver sequin appliqués shined on mini dresses. Zips were put across the jackets as well as down skirts for the colorful spring/summer 2016 collection. Accessories included leather strap knuckle gloves, drawstring as well as small box handbags and metal-toed short boots.
On the fall winter 2015-2016 runway, after a year since Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton debut, the pieces that channeled the future most brightly were the second-skin ribbed knits; with their cutouts above the bust and their fluted cuffs and hems, they were as efficient as uniforms. Metallics abounded. On a silvery silk pantsuit worn with a logo tee. On a glinting dress with the puffed, mutton sleeves that were one of the show’s distinguishing features. And on the accessories.
